Did you know that Delta County Libraries offers a seed library countywide? Beginning in March, patrons can start checking out seeds to grow their gardens!
Gardeners across the county are reaping late harvests, putting garden beds to rest and preparing for the cold, quiet, months of winter. Many local gardeners have added a new activity to their fall checklist with the emergence of the Delta County Seed Library: seed saving.
The Delta County Libraries offer some great collections: books for all ages and interests, videos, reference resources and state parks backpacks.
Last week about a dozen volunteers gathered at the Hotchkiss Library to package seeds for the seed library.
With the first frost of the season, many gardeners throughout Delta County begin the process of putting garden beds to rest for the winter. The cycle of preparing soil, planting seeds, nurturing plants and reaping the harvest is a process that many Delta County residents relish, just as they relish the flavor of homegrown, quality food.
The seasons control many schedules as people living in Colorado adjust to cold and hot extremes, snow, mud, wind and more. Some seasonal activities are obvious and expected, like skiing, gardening and boating.
