Two dozen citizens were on hand at last week's regular meeting of the Orchard City Board of Trustees. While water issues dominated the agenda, it was during constituent time that residents voiced their concerns on other matters.
Town of Paonia garbage customers will see an increase in their monthly bill beginning in June.
The increase comes after trustees formally adopted a resolution establishing garbage rates and charges at the May 21 meeting.
Paonia trustees were asked at the Feb. 27 board meeting to consider a resolution to increase town trash pick-up service by $1 per month. The proposed increase is in response to an increase in landfill tipping fees by the Delta County Landfill.
As a result of a price increase at the county-operated landfill, trash rates are going up in Hotchkiss.
Trash service is provided by Double J Disposal, which is in its third year of its current five-year contract with the town.
The Town of Paonia is considering a request for proposals for trash collection and disposal services. But whether the town will get out of the business of collecting trash is only in the discussion stage.
