Cody Purcell, district wildlife manager for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, reports that this winter's urban deer count conducted in and around Cedaredge totaled 508 animals. Fourteen citizen volunteers and six CPW staff members participated in the count which was conducted on Feb. 23.
Last Friday, Cody Purcell, district wildlife manager for Colorado Parks & Wildlife, assembled 14 citizen volunteers and six CPW staff to conduct a count of the Cedaredge mule deer population. The purpose of the count was to gather data on the increasing number of deer that are congregating in and adjacent to town.
Cody Purcell was busy last week. Purcell, the district wildlife manager for Colorado Parks & Wildlife was in Cedaredge going door to door to remind well-meaning town dwellers to stop feeding wild deer. Due to concerns raised by residents adjacent to the golf course, he concentrated his efforts there -- talking to homeowners and distributing flyers.
