Feedback sought on preliminary Master Plan vision

The Delta County Master Plan aims to prepare Delta County for a more prosperous future. From May to June, residents across Delta County participated in community visioning discussions to identify community concerns and hopes for the future. Since August, the planning commission has been working with staff and RPI, the consultant, to define a vision and goals for the Master Plan that reflect what the community said was important.

Yearlong planning process launched

Last week, Delta County officially launched a yearlong process to update the Delta County Master Plan. A master plan provides the overall vision for how the built environment -- infrastructure, housing, transportation, recreation, business and industry -- support and complement the other less tangible aspects of community -- the economy, health, the environment and quality of life.

Property owner events added to master plan

Members of the county planning commission learned on May 2 that meetings will be available beginning next week for property owners, and for others, who want to meet individually with the master plan rewrite consultant.

Called "property -owner drop-in events," the sessions are a new feature to the master plan process that was first unveiled to local officials in January.

County master plan review dates released

The consultant for the county master plan rewrite project, RPI of Durango, has provided an update which includes dates for six community meetings scheduled next month.

The community sessions (also being called "visioning workshops") will begin in Hotchkiss on Monday, May 15, and then move to Paonia on Tuesday, May 16; to Cedaredge on Wednesday, May 17; Crawford on Thursday, May 18; and finally to Delta on Tuesday, May 23. Locations for the community meetings are to be determined, according to the email provided to the county.

The planning commission and the town council for Hotchkiss have launched a master plan update process, and the community is invited to weigh in on the future development of the town.

Everyone in the greater Hotchkiss community -- not just town proper -- are invited to fill out one of the eight-page surveys.

Hotchkiss to update master plan in 2017

The Town of Hotchkiss is preparing for a periodic review of its community master plan in 2017 and is hoping for public input and participation.

The Hotchkiss Community Master Plan, in part, provides a statement of community goals and objectives and an assessment of the town's needs, said Tom Wills, a trustee and lead planner on the Hotchkiss Planning Commission.

Orchard City master plan retains 'live and let live'

Though the Orchard City Master Plan is set to be reissued in a new and updated version, the community's old-fashioned values of "live and let live" expressed in the original 2005 plan are restated in the proposed 2016 revision.

"Orchard City has adopted a land use philosophy of 'live and let live' that does not include zoning regulations," states part of the community's vision plan.

Master plan update to begin

The first steps are being taken toward updating the county's master plan.

At their July 20 meeting, Delta County Planning Commission members reviewed the draft of a request for proposals (RFP) which, when finalized, will be sent to professional consultants and planning firms which can lead and coordinate the process of updating the county's master plan.
