Appointments were made May 21 to the concentrated animal feeding operation (CAFO) working group and the oil and gas working group by county commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes.

County hosts master plan open house in Hotchkiss

Community members began arriving early for the first open house to review the Delta County Master Plan on Monday, April 9, at Heritage Hall in Hotchkiss.

Stations were set up around the room with posters providing information on different elements of the Master Plan, along with enlarged maps from the plan.

Feedback invited on draft Master Plan

Eleven months in the making, the first full draft of the Delta County Master Plan is available for public review and comment.

Master plan is Hotchkiss' road map to the future

The Hotchkiss Planning Commission is expected to formally adopt the town's master plan tonight, then forward it to the Hotchkiss Town Council for ratification in April.

A master plan for the town was first adopted in 2006 and has been updated periodically since.

Planning commission begins review of Master Plan update

At their Feb. 28 meeting at the county courthouse, members of Delta County Planning Commission began a page-by-page discussion of the review draft of the Master Plan update, prepared by Delta County staff and RPI Consulting.

Elyse Casselberry, county community and economic development director, and Gabe Preston of RPI Consulting presented the report's pages on screen, and spoke of the background information on those pages, as the discussion progressed.

They shared the results of their open discussion meetings with their respective student bodies in which they gathered information for use in the county Master Plan update.

City's parks, trails Master Plan finalized

The city's Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails Master Plan was formally adopted in late December after months of public, city council and staff input.

The city's consultant, Logan Simpson, held three public hearings, met with a citizens' advisory committee four times, and reviewed surveys mailed to every household in Delta and available online to every resident of Delta County.

Delta County health director Karen O'Brien proposed to the Delta County Planning Commission at its Dec. 20 meeting that health issues be built into the Delta County Master Plan update.

Delta County community members turned out at three meetings held in mid-November to provide their views on six key themes that will be part of the updated Delta County Master Plan.

Property owner events added to master plan

County master plan review dates released

The consultant for the county master plan rewrite project, RPI of Durango, has provided an update which includes dates for six community meetings scheduled next month.

The community sessions (also being called "visioning workshops") will begin in Hotchkiss on Monday, May 15, and then move to Paonia on Tuesday, May 16; to Cedaredge on Wednesday, May 17; Crawford on Thursday, May 18; and finally to Delta on Tuesday, May 23. Locations for the community meetings are to be determined, according to the email provided to the county.

The planning commission and the town council for Hotchkiss have launched a master plan update process, and the community is invited to weigh in on the future development of the town.

The Town of Hotchkiss is preparing for a periodic review of its community master plan in 2017 and is hoping for public input and participation.

The Hotchkiss Community Master Plan, in part, provides a statement of community goals and objectives and an assessment of the town's needs, said Tom Wills, a trustee and lead planner on the Hotchkiss Planning Commission.

Though the Orchard City Master Plan is set to be reissued in a new and updated version, the community's old-fashioned values of "live and let live" expressed in the original 2005 plan are restated in the proposed 2016 revision.

"Orchard City has adopted a land use philosophy of 'live and let live' that does not include zoning regulations," states part of the community's vision plan.

The first steps are being taken toward updating the county's master plan.

At their July 20 meeting, Delta County Planning Commission members reviewed the draft of a request for proposals (RFP) which, when finalized, will be sent to professional consultants and planning firms which can lead and coordinate the process of updating the county's master plan.
