Delta City Council considered requests from two youth groups at its June 5 meeting.
Elyse Casselberry, Delta County community and economic development director, requested the appointment of six Delta High School students to the youth council for the upcoming school year.
The Delta City Council is weighing a request from the Delta Barracuda swim team for a donation of $5,000 to help with the purchase of new timing equipment and a scoreboard.
Darnell Place-Wise made the request on behalf of the swim team.
Delta High School senior Kendra Hillman entered last week's state swim meet ranked ninth in the 50 yd. freestyle and finished 10th. Hillman posted a personal best time of 25.93 in the race.

Delta High School had a few high finishes in last weekend's swim meet at Bill Heddles Rec Center. One of the most rewarding, for head coach Karoline Roome, was the first-place finish by Kendra Hillman in the 50 yard freestyle event.
Delta High School's swim team traveled to Frisco to participate in the Summit Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 13. The Panthers placed third out of five teams with 141 points. Glenwood Springs won the team title with 418 points.
Last week's swim meet held in Montrose was an eight-team event. Glenwood Springs won the Montrose High School Girls Swim and Dive Invitational on Dec. 16 with 443 points.
The Panthers finished sixth with a score of 167 points.
Thirty-three swimmers are keeping the water at BHRC in constant motion during practice times for Delta High School's swim team. The participating team members are from all four Delta County schools.
In a three-team swim meet held last Friday, Delta's Panthers finished second with 342 points. Gunnison won the meet with 347 points and Montrose placed third with 270 points.

The Delta Barracudas swim team has started their 2016 summer season. Currently, there are 33 swimmers involved with the Barracudas program, including five new swimmers this year.
Bill Heddles Recreation Center is offering public swim lessons at a variety of days and times. All classes are taught by American Red Cross certified instructors. The cost is $28 per child for Saturday sessions and $40 for Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday sessions, due at registration.
