Approximately 18 years ago, Dev Carey, a local student advocate with a PhD in biology, approached the Delta 50J School District superintendent, Laddie Livingston, with a proposal involving the district and 75 home-schooled learners who were not currently attending schools in the district. The premise of this proposal was to sculpt a self-directed educational model for learning.
Two modular buildings no longer in use at the old elementary school in Cedaredge will be moved to address a "serious need" for additional classroom space at the Delta campus of Vision Charter Academy.
At an estimated cost of just over $300,000, the move doesn't come cheap, but it's less than new construction of energy-efficient classrooms.
