The Kiwanis Club of Delta is holding its fifth annual poker tournament at Bill Heddles Recreation Center Saturday, April 2. Registration is at 4 p.m., with tournament play beginning at 5 p.m. and lasting until approximately 8 p.m.
The tournament is a partnership between the Kiwanis Club and Western Slope Poker Tour, owned by Mel Lutz. Approximately $1,000 worth of prizes will be raffled off throughout the evening, and the Key Club from Delta High School will be serving food at a nominal cost. Micro-brew beer will be provided by TK Mining. Interested players can contact Clay Speas at 970-361-2950 to pre-register for a spot at a table or to obtain additional information.
Money donated at the event stays in Delta County and is used to establish and maintain programs and activities to assist youth in Delta County including college scholarships, sponsorships for Key Club members to attend leadership conferences, and grants to numerous youth-related activities in the community. This year much of the poker tournament proceeds will be put toward upgrading the kids' section of the Delta Library. New bookshelves, furniture and a fresh coat of paint are just a few of the items the club will be implementing this spring.
