Francis Laonia Conrad died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, at HopeWest Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction. She was 88.
She was born in Delta Dec. 2, 1927, to Wilber and Carrie (Riley) Johns. She spent her childhood in Delta and graduated from Delta High School in 1947.
On May 23, 1947, she married George Albert "Al" Conrad in Montrose. They spent several years in California before moving back to Delta County. They lived in Austin for over 50 years.
Mrs. Conrad worked at Delta County Memorial Hospital for 27 years until her retirement in 1997. She worked primarily as the Medicare billing supervisor. She was known for her daily "Hospital Report" prior to the Paul Harvey radio broadcast for many years.
She served in various offices within the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #39 in Delta for 50-plus years and was a longtime member of the Orchard City Women's Club. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Austin.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading Zane Gray books, watching Lawrence Welk, news and old movies on TV, especially musicals and westerns, playing the piano and organ and singing. She followed golf and attended the Masters Tournament once. She enjoyed traveling and visiting historic sites, including every presidential library except those in Texas and Michigan.
Mrs. Conrad is survived by one son, Lynn Conrad of Delta; a daughter, Dawn Conrad of Cedaredge; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Al, on Jan. 21, 1994; and a son, Clifford (Duane) Conrad.
Interment will be at a future date.
