From the Delta Police Department:

Jan. 25:

Randall B. Allsup, 47, of Delta was arrested and jailed for alleged third degree assault.

Patricia E. Penfield, 51, of Paonia was issued a ticket for alleged failure to yield right of way to oncoming traffic after being involved in a two-vehicle crash at Highway 50 and Highway 92. No injuries were reported or observed. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Jan. 26:

Kathryn N. Hoops, 27, of Grand Junction was arrested and jailed for alleged speeding (57 in a 45 zone), DUI and DUI per se.

Davona K. Stewart, 42, of West Springfield, Mass., was issued a ticket for alleged shoplifting.

Jan. 27:

Shawn L. Willshire, 40, of Delta was arrested and jailed for alleged violation of a protection order.

Jan. 28:

Dakota N. Scott, 18, of Delta was issued a ticket for alleged careless driving after being involved in a single vehicle crash in the 700 block of 1600 Road. Minor injuries were reported and observed. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Jan. 30:

Ross L. Meryhew, 23, of Delta was arrested and jailed for alleged harassment.

Jan. 31:

A 14-year-old male of Delta was issued a ticket for alleged shoplifting, possession of marijuana by an underage person and possession/consumption of ethyl alcohol by an underage person.

Citations: Nine tickets for traffic violations were issued this week, seven for speeding.

From the Delta County Sheriff's Office (partial list):

Jan. 25:

A Delta area resident reported a suspicious white substance left behind by a family member who moved out with her belongings, as well as some of the homeowner's. The white substance is being tested. Potential charges include theft and drug-related crimes.

Jan. 26:

A Paonia area woman said two dogs were locked up in a nearby trailer for at least five days. She didn't see tracks to indicate they are ever taken outside or that anyone goes in to feed them. Deputies located the dogs' caretaker, who allowed them access to the trailer to verify the dogs were warm, fed and watered.

The theft of a flatbed trailer was reported from a residence on Cactus Park Road outside of Cedaredge. The 2012 Park trailer has license plate number 470 AQY.

Cedaredge firefighters and sheriff's deputies responded to a vehicle fire on Needlerock Road at about 4 p.m. Jan. 26. There were no injuries. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

Shortly after 5 p.m., a Nissan Pathfinder driven by Cade Lugard was eastbound on Highway 50 when it struck a sedan attempting to pull out onto Highway 50 from Ash Mesa Road. That vehicle was driven by Alyson Brown. There were no reported injuries. The Colorado State Patrol arrived on scene to handle the investigation.

Jan. 27:

A motorcycle owner on H Road, Delta, found long cuts in the synthetic leather seat of his new purchase. The act of criminal mischief occurred sometime during the night, while the motorcycle was parked under his carport.

Jan. 28:

Delta County Search and Rescue worked with Mesa County rescuers to coordinate the recovery of a Delta man who died, possibly from heart failure, while snowmobiling on Grand Mesa.

Jan. 30:

While on patrol in the North Fork area, a cruiser driven by Deputy Nick Buffington was involved in a collision with two deer. The deputy was eastbound on Highway 92 at about 1 a.m. when he spotted the deer and stopped his vehicle. The deer continued into the passenger side of the cruiser, causing minor damage.
