Leanne Dee Martin of Cedaredge died of a heart attack at her residence Monday, Aug. 1, 2016. She was 65.
No services are planned.
Leanne Dee Martin was born in Bueno Park, Calif., April 8, 1951, to Wilber and Cleora Martin.
She graduated from Savanna High in Southern California in 1969. She earned her bachelor's degree from Mesa College and from there went to the police academy. She was in law enforcement for 22 years, starting as a police officer and EMT for the Town of Cedaredge. She joined the Delta County Sheriff's Office in 1986. She was promoted after a couple of years to detective.
In 2001 she was named investigator for the newly formed 7th Judicial District sex crimes unit. She also started several businesses including Leather by Leanne, Colby Canon Lodging, and Colby Canyon and Screen Printing with Donna King. She continued the family business of many generations of breeding Arabian horses until 1985. She was a ceritifed firearms instructor, CPR instructor and dive master. She enjoyed playing softball, traveling and scuba diving. She volunteered her diving skills to help recovery teams in local lakes and rivers.
She also enjoyed water skiing, parasailing, four-wheeling, parachuting, playing the drums and guitar, prospecting for gold and her dogs, Shadow and Sugar. After retirement she spent her winters in her second home in Arizona.
She is survived by her close companions, Ed Neil and Donna King; nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cary and Ricky Martin.
