Hotchkiss Fire District is recruiting volunteer firefighters.
Anyone interested in volunteering or learning about what is required to be a volunteer firefighter is welcome to attend the district's "Make Me a Firefighter" events.
The first will be held on the evening of Friday, Sept. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. The second event is Sunday, Sept. 20, from noon to 2 p.m. Both events will be held at the Hotchkiss Fire Station at 193 W. Hotchkiss Avenue.
Information will be available about being a volunteer firefighter, training and the many services that fire departments provide. Anyone wanting to volunteer may start the process at these events. Volunteers must pass a criminal background check and drug test.
Anyone interested in volunteering who cannot make either event may call the station at 872-3311 and leave a message.
They may also email Hotchkiss Fire at firstname.lastname@example.org or through Facebook at www.facebook.com/HotchkissFire.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
