The Town of Crawford is saving more than $300 per month to light its streets after Delta-Montrose Electric Association replaced existing high-pressure and mercury vapor bulbs with LED lights throughout the town last year.
"That's insane," said town clerk Toby Stephenson. "And the lights are much nicer now, they're all the same color."
A year ago the September cost to light the streets was $523; last month the town paid $200 to DMEA.
Crawford was the first town in Delta County to sign up for the energy efficiency program, which touted a 50 percent savings.
