Hotchkiss resident Leo E. Collins died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 78.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Paonia.
Mr. Collins was born in Crawford July 20, 1937, to Caroline and Albert Collins. He grew up in Crawford, graduating from school there.
He joined the U.S. Air Force where he served as a navigator. After leaving the Air Force he worked as a mechanic.
He married Peggy Barr. They had four children. On July 2, 1982, he married Wilma Bates in Henderson, Nev.
Mr. Collins enjoyed hunting, football, dancing and other activities.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Wilma Collins; two children, Joel and Terry Collins, both of Grand Junction; three stepdaughters, Shawna (Scott) Brown, Linda (Duane) Black of Henderson, Nev., and Lisa Bieber of Montrose; two stepsons, David (Becky) Jones of Grand Junction and Mark (Jewel) Jones; six grandchildren; two great-grandchilren; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; an infant daughter; and a brother, Alfred Collins.

On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
