Longtime Nucla resident Leora May Skees died Dec. 19, 2016, at her home in Farmington, N.M. She was 88.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at the Nucla Cemetery with Rick Luster officiating.
She was born in Denver March 16, 1928, to Tellef and Telley (Evanson) Johnson. She spent her childhood in Nucla and graduated from Nucla High School.
On Nov. 10, 1948, she married Jack Skees in Nucla.
Mrs. Skees was a member of the ladies auxiliary, Arabian horse association, and enjoyed craft work.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Jack Skees of Farmington, N.M.; three daughters, Linda (Alan) Greager of Rapid City, S.D., and Casa Grande, Ariz., Suzanne (Gary) Oliver of Farmginton, N.M., and Lorriane Skees of Nucla; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Randy Skees.
