Lila June Murray

Lila June Murray, 90, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2016, with family by her side. Lila lived in Eckert since 1999.

She was born in McGill, Nev., on July 22, 1925, to George and Vena (Chamberlin) Hunter.

Lila was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick; son, Gerald; and sisters, Georgia, Vita and Carmen.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Richard Garrett of Eckert; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Theresa Murray of Centennial; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Lila graduated from White Pine County High School in Ely, Nev., in 1943. After graduation, she moved to Oakland, Calif., where she met and married Fred Murray in 1945. They returned to McGill and in 1957 moved to Kearny, Ariz., where they spent 41 years. After retiring from Kennecott Copper Corporation, Lila and Fred operated a tax preparation service and video rental store in Kearny. In 1999 they moved to Eckert, Colo., to be closer to their children.

Lila was always energetic and adventurous, whether it was moving to Oakland, Calif., by herself at 19, river rafting at the age of 78, parasailing in Mexico or riding elephants in Thailand. She loved traveling abroad as well as camping and taking road trips in their travel trailer. She played the piano beautifully and loved going to plays. Her greatest passion was her family, and she spent many holidays and vacations visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service was held April 12 at Horan and McConaty in Aurora, Colo.
