Listening to Cedaredge voices | Cedaredge, Church

Phil Ellsworth

"It is easy for a congregation to scratch a community where it doesn't itch," according to Joe Agne, pastor of Community United Methodist Church in Cedaredge. "In 2018 we will listen to voices from our community to hear the needs of our community."

Phil Ellsworth, "Cedaredge Poet Laureate" and friend of everyone in Cedaredge, leads off this series during worship at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 28. The title of his presentation is "The Valley of My Dreams." When asked what he would be saying to the church, he responded with a line from a song, "Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue, and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true." There will be time for conversation with Phil after worship in the friendship hour. Everyone is welcome for the whole morning.

The church has scheduled six "Cedaredge Voices" for the year. Each is asked to tell the congregation what the community needs from them. "We don't want to assume what the community needs. We need input," according to Agne. "United Methodist pastors are sent to serve congregations and to join their congregation in serving their communities in the spirit of the founder of Methodism, John Wesley, who said, 'The World is Our Parish'."

The congregation will announce the dates when future "Voices" will present in worship. For information, contact Pamela Gubkin, the congregation's Coordinator of Ministries, or 970-856-3696.
