Photo by Hank Lohmeyer All around champions and reserve grand champions with their award saddles and breast collars at the conclusion of the 59th annual Western Slope Little Britches Rodeo on Sunday.

The Western Slope Little Britches Rodeo concluded its 59th consecutive annual performances at the Surface Creek Saddle Club arena at Cedaredge on Sunday, May 21.

The two-day weekend provided three rodeo performances.

Contestants coming away with top awards were McKray Duncan of Farron, Utah, senior boy; Gentry Goza of Loma, senior girl; Brannan Allen of Loma, junior boy; Hailey Humphrey of Pomona, Utah, junior girl; and, Brylee Brehm of Whitewater, little wrangler.

Reserve championships were won by Kendall McHugh of Cedaredge, senior girl; Kylan Humphrey of Pomona, junior boy; Grace Wahl, junior girl; and Clayton Goza of Loma, little wrangler. There was no reserve champion in the senior boy category.

The grand champions and reserve champions were awarded saddles and breast collars. Saddle sponsors for the event were Bank of Colorado, Kissner G.C., Kwiki Tire I and II, Surface Creek Veterinary Center, Alpine Fencing, and Dr. Jennifer Craig. Sponsor for the breast collars was J.C. Propane.

The Western Slope Little Britches rodeo cannot take place without immense effort and contributions by volunteers. Special thanks for helping with the event this year went to Kacy and Keith Stillings, Nate and Amy Hawkins, John Mark and Adrianna McHugh, and Vern and Connie Frost who all served as members of the event committee.

Special thanks also went to the Hawkins family, Creekside Bed and Breakfast, and all the volunteers who helped with staging the performances.

Other local sponsors are responsible for bringing this rodeo to Cedaredge and giving local youth the chance to experience the flavor of the Old West and being a unique part of local history and culture.
