With many young rodeoers in the state choosing to compete in high school rodeo finals events this weekend, the 58th Annual Western Slope Little Britches Rodeo drew a good response of 32 contestants from Colorado and neighboring states to compete in four rodeos over the Memorial Day weekend.
The usual three rodeo performances were expanded to four this year due to availability of an extra day over the longer Memorial Day weekend. There was one performance on Saturday, two on Sunday, and one on Memorial Day.
This year's rodeo included an exciting bull riding event. The one contestant was local rodeo rider Wyatt Hamilton.
Traditional events that the community has staged in the past for the rodeo weekend were cut back because of the date change from mid July to Memorial Day. A street dance was held after Saturday's performance; however, other traditional activities including a patriotic parade and community cookout in Town Park will still take place on Saturday, July 2.
