The All Saints Lutheran Church in Cory hosted its annual craft fair the mornings of Nov. 3 and 4. Crafts, artwork, and embroidery were both on display and available for purchase. The selections included paintings, quilts, handcrafted toys, banners, clothing, jewelry, and decorations. The fair also offered holiday decorations and gifts. In addition, guests at the fair could purchase lunch and baked goods, and participate in a silent auction.
The craft fair also featured seamstress Alice Spika, whose embroidery and other artwork was on display. She has crafted church banners, quilts, car covers, and collaborated with daughter and designer Sandi Spika on dresses for well-known music artists, including Reba McIntire's famous red dress and gowns for Taylor Swift and Faith Hill. Her daughter designed the dresses while Spika pieced them together and embroidered them.
Spika is a member of the All Saints Lutheran Church and was recognized at the craft fair as its "Featured Artist," as well as its "Artist of the Year." She has been sewing almost her entire life and has developed creative ways to improve upon her projects -- incorporating new methods of embroidery for Christmas decorations and church banners.
All Saints Lutheran Church is located in Cory off Highway 65, and hosts the craft fair every November. Artists and craftsmen work on their projects the entire year leading up to the fair. Church members run the event, which is open to the public.
