Local artists selected for national water media show

Rockies West National 2016 will be held March 2 through April 2 at The Art Center, 7th and Orchard in Grand Junction. The exhibition is the 24th annual water media show put on by Western Colorado Watercolor Society. This year, 68 paintings have been selected from 68 artists from 18 states.

The public is invited to view the paintings during Art Center hours and is also welcome at the opening reception Friday, March 4, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. There will be a gallery talk by the show's juror, nationally known Tom Francesconi from Chicago. Awards will be given out between 6:30 and 7 p.m.

While many states are represented, regional artists were also juried into the exhibit. They are from Grand Junction, Palisade, Glenwood Springs, Delta, Hotchkiss, Montrose, Durango, Mesa, Cedaredge and Whitewater. Western Colorado Watercolor Society is proud of these artists and proud to present an outstanding national show.

The exhibition is made possible with a grant from Grand Junction Commission of Arts and Culture and with help from sponsors. The prize for Best of Show is $1,000. Alpine Bank will give a $500 award to the Best Colorado Artist. Other sponsors are Edward Jones, Ranae Coffman - Delta, Delta Fine Arts, Montrose Visual Arts, Glenwood Artist Guild, AppleShed in Cedaredge, and Mattes 'n More of Cory. Quality Inn sponsors accommodations for the juror and workshop instructor.

Local artists juried into this year's exhibition are Fred Honchell, Judy Chapman, Mary Bollig and Dani Tupper.
