Four area athletes were privileged to have had the opportunity of playing in this year's 3A State Golf Tournament at Indian Peaks Golf Course in Lafayette on Oct. 3.
An unexpected spring storm delayed the playing of the 3A tournament in Lafayette. Instead of a two-day tournament, with 18 holes each day, tournament officials condensed state tournament play into just one day.
"I think all the players thought they could shave a few strokes off in this tournament. They were all hoping to play two days instead of just one," quoted Delta coach Ken Brown.
Cedaredge High School golf coach Larry Murphy was unable to attend the state tournament and Brown coached both schools during tournament play. "What a great experience for all of us. We had fun together as a group....what a great group of kids," stated Brown.
The Cedaredge Bruins had three players qualify for play in the state tournament and Delta High School sent one representative.
Cedaredge's Duncan Campbell had the Bruins' lowest score in tournament play with his 80. Jacob Lewis finished tournament play with an 85 and Peter Carlson shot an 88. Lewis' 85 was one of seven such scores for 49th place in tournament play and Carlson's 88 placed him in a five-way tie for 60th.
Delta's KC Carlson was the lone Delta Panther to qualify for this year's state tournament. His round of 80 placed him in a tie with five other tournament golfers, including Cedaredge's Campbell.
Duncan and Carlson finished tied for 27th with four other players.
