Lily Lockhart was excited to participate in last Saturday's discus competition in Delta. Lockhart dominated competition last year in both shot put and discus and earned a trip to state last year.

Lockhart spun the discus 139-08 on Saturday to eclipse the old mark of 117-08 set in 2012 by Glenwood Springs' Mc-Kenzie Nelson-Beuher. Lockhart's nearest competitor was Krista Carlo of Palisade with a throw of 110-00.

Lockhart was close to the record in shot put with her winning throw of 40-05.5. Delta's Bryanna Music set the existing mark of 41-06 back in 2014.

The Panthers did not have any other first-place finishes in the meet on Saturday but collected enough points on a number of top-eight places to earn 75.5 points and a fourth-place finish.

Emily Baier placed second in triple jump with a 32-08 effort. She jumped 15-03.5 in long jump to place fourth.

The Panthers' 800-meter sprint medley relay team was third in a time of 1:59.71.

Other fourth-place finishes for Delta included Emily Nortnik in high jump, and the 400-meter relay team.

Nortnik was fifth in long jump, joining the Panther 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams which also finished fifth.

Nortnik stayed busy in the jumping events and picked up another three points for the Panthers with her sixth-place finish in triple jump.

Teona Martinez, in the 100-meter dash and long jump competitions, finished seventh in both events. Delta's 3200-meter relay team was also seventh.

Mykayla Music and Paige Murray picked up points in the 1600-meter run and 300-meter hurdles, respectively.

The Panthers are in Hotchkiss on Saturday for the Bulldogs' annual Hotchkiss Invitational. Field events begin at 8:30 a.m. and running events start at 9 a.m.
