One of the valley's favorite music groups, one that has also entertained audiences throughout the county and elsewhere, The Metamoocil Mountain Boys, is scheduling a benefit concert on March 5 with proceeds going to the Friends of Cedaredge Animal Control building fund.
The group comprised of George Gertz, Paul Frazier and Larry Claxton has not played together since disbanding three years ago, Claxton told the DCI.
"I guess you could call this a reunion concert. We wanted to do something for the animal shelter, but we're not getting back together again to play on a regular basis," Claxton said.
The concert will be at the Cedaredge Assembly of God from 7 to 9 p.m. The Assembly of God venue is spacious and comfortable. It provides an ample stage setting and good acoustics and sound, all of which will help provide a good experience for concertgoers just as they enhance the worship experience of churchgoers every Sunday at regular church services. Admission to the event will be by donation. Organizers told the DCI that there will be refreshments available at the event.
The whole Surface Creek Valley community has adopted the animal shelter building fund project as a favorite charitable cause. Money raised by the concert event will go to the Friends of Cedaredge Animal control's new building fund.
The FCAC is assuming ownership of the buildings and property where the Surface Creek Shelter and animal adoption service is located. The facilities were previously owned by the Town of Cedaredge.
Over years of operation, the FCAC and many generous local supporters have made a lot of improvements to the shelter facilities including kennels, outside holding pens, and a large dog run. But an older mobile home that has served as a main office area and as sanctuary for the many cats and kittens that always seem to need a home there is showing its age and has been determined to be in need of replacement.
The FCAC's goal is to have the older mobile home removed and in its place construct a "stick built" main building to better serve its functions. The new building will be in the same location of the old mobile and be about the same dimensions, but it will be specifically designed for its purpose and will add capacity and functionality to the shelter operations.
Delta's second annual "Kickoff to Christmas" takes place Saturday, Nov. 25. This event is sponsored by the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce and First Colorado National Bank.
