Supporting the community's promising young students is a big job that takes the energies of many people and many hands from members of community groups, along with support from the community at large.
Members of the local Zeta Omicron chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority saw strong community support on March 11 at their annual scholarship fundraising Irish Stew Luncheon.
The local ESA members and their husbands made rounds up and down the valley delivering almost 100 meals to local businesses which had placed their requests ahead of time.
In addition, there were at least as many take-out meals and sit-down lunch guests at the Masonic Hall.
Proceeds from the lunch are used to provide scholarship assistance for a graduating CHS senior who goes into a vocational career field of study after high school.
The local ESA chapter supports many local organizations and causes. As part of the national sorority it also has as a principal supporting cause St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The hospital is associated with a charity fundraiser event called "DreamHome." A different charity -- Boys and Girls Clubs -- has a similarly named fundraising event called "Dream House." Some of the money raised by other ESA events goes to support the St. Jude "DreamHome" project, not the "Dream House" event.
The members of Zeta Omicron also stage the annual Edge of the Cedars Art Exhibit.
