As a taxpayer, I am appalled at the decision of the Crawford Town Council to waste taxpayer money ... THOUSANDS of dollars of our money, so that Mayor Wanda Goforth could throw a childish tantrum in front of a judge while taking legal action against one of our taxpayers. Neither Wanda Goforth nor town attorney Jim Brown have offered a single reason why over $5,000 of our money was wasted. I do not possess the vocabulary to express my disgust and utter contempt for the way Wanda Goforth has been choosing to act in public, at the expense of the citizens of Crawford.
At the council meeting Sept. 7, the mayor tried to blame me for attorney's fees that the town has incurred since the council voted 4-3 to close my business five years ago. What? Why are Wanda and her friends wasting money talking to a lawyer about a business that they have already closed? And with the hundreds of millions in revenue this industry is creating for our state, do I need to ask if she even understands the concept of basic addition?
I will remind my neighbors that the marijuana business is booming. Store owners must pass a background check with the FBI before the State of Colorado issues a license, MMED offices in Denver and Grand Junction monitor these businesses 24 hours a day, as well as running random on-site inspections. All forms are ID are scanned, to ensure the legality of sale, as well as provide the means for prosecution should that product ever be provided to children. I mentioned the hundreds of millions in revenue, right? We must look at all viable options for providing the economic future of this community. It is time to look at licensing the only store in an 80-mile radius. Don't keep raising our fees, rates and taxes ... one marijuana store can more than cover any mineral losses in our budget. And watching Wanda Goforth waste our tax dollars, I would like to bring a little more state oversight to what happens at the executive level of our community.
