Marjorie Bertram

Longtime Cedaredge resident Marjorie Ruth Bertram died Oct. 16, 2017, at Horizons Care Center in Eckert. She was 93.

She was born May 30, 1924, in Eagletown, Okla., to Archie and May Himes. She spent some of her childhood in Oklahoma and Iowa before moving with her family to Delta and Montrose counties, living in Olathe, Delta and Cedaredge. Her family lived in the Sand Creek school house (now a featured building at Pioneer Town) after their home was destroyed by fire. Mrs. Bertram attended school in Cedaredge.

As a teenager, she worked with design blueprinting in an engineering section of the shipbuilding yards in San Francisco during the early part of World War II.

Once she returned to Cedaredge, she married Charles Bertram. They owned and operated a ranch with his brother northwest of Cedaredge until their retirement. Mr. Bertram died in 1987.

She later married Rollland Husted; he also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bertram was involved in the beginning of the Cedaredge Little Britches rodeo and continued to serve as an event timer.

She enjoyed attending and supporting her children and grandchildren in sports, sewing, crocheting, ceramics and traveling, especially to New Jersey to visit family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Connie (Vern) Frost and Bruce (Myrna) Bertram, both of Cedaredge; one sister, Ruby Radebaugh of Vernal, Utah; sister-in-law, Peggy Himes of Grand Junction; grandchildren, Mindy (Joel) Houston of Cedaredge, Celeste (Ralph "JR") Brooks of Aurora, Yvonne (Preston) Simmons of Delta and Grant (DeAnna) Frost of Cedaredge; 11 great-grandchildren; and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Bertram; her second husband, Rolland Husted; and four siblings, Gladys Bertram, Carrie Thompson, Bud Himes and Archie Himes.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Horizons Care Center, 11411 Hwy. 65, Eckert, CO 81418 or to HopeWest, PO Box 24, Delta, CO 81416.

Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory is handling the arrangements.
