Dear Editor:

I am a Colorado native and have lived in Delta County for the past 23 years. I have had the privilege of knowing and working with Mark Roeber for the 23 years that I have lived here both as a rangeland specialist for the U.S. Forest Service and as a trustee for the Town of Paonia. Mark Roeber is a sincere man, a man of true integrity. He epitomizes that classic western image of the tall, quiet, honest, hard-working man. An individual you can trust and rely on.

Mark has represented Delta County during some very difficult years -- the second term of the Obama assault on rural America. Mark has a lifetime of experience in working with the federal government since half of his families' ranching operation relies on grazing on BLM and Forest Service lands. His family ranch has not only survived working with those agencies but has thrived. In 1997 the Mt. Lamborn Ranch was recognized for outstanding achievement in rangeland management, along with five other ranch families that graze livestock on the 90,000-acre West Elk allotment of the Gunnison National Forest. This national award is given by the chief of the Forest Service to one ranching operation per year that grazes livestock on the national forests in the United States. Mark's family has not only grazed livestock on the Gunnison National Forest for over 100 years, they have excelled in managing their grazing use in an area that includes half of the West Elk Wilderness and the watersheds of the Towns of Crawford and Paonia.

Mark understands how to deal with the federal government and work with our municipalities. Mark has done an outstanding job for us as county commissioner since he was elected in 2012. He has provided leadership in promoting food processing in Delta County so that it continues as a viable economic activity; he has been instrumental in moving the broadband issue forward making sure that DMEA, Region 10 and the municipalities are all involved, and he has provided direction to the county staff to deal with the reduced revenues Delta County is facing. In addition Mark has represented the county at the state and federal level on numerous projects, including the Gunnison Basin Round Table, providing leadership to ensure that the Colorado Water Plan kept Western Slope water on this side of the Continental Divide; and the Gunnison Valley Transportation Plan, working to get Delta County a fair share of the state transportation dollars for road improvements, trails and improving road intersections for safety. He represented Delta County in an 11-county effort in Colorado and Utah that is working to reduce the impact of the listing of the Gunnison sage grouse on private lands.

I have more but I'm limited on how much I can put in this letter. I strongly encourage you to vote for Mark Roeber and re-elect him as Delta County Commissioner for District 3 and give him the opportunity to continue to represent us and serve our interests!
