Delta resident Mark Vannest died Thursday, March 17, 2016, at his home. He was 54.
He was born in Greeley July 28, 1961, to Elmer and Charlene (Kitzman) Vannest. He grew up in LaSalle and Norwood.
After graduating from Norwood High School in 1979, he served in the U.S. Navy as an electronic technician E3. He was honorably discharged in 1982, and was on inactive reserve until 1985.
Mr. Vannest worked as an electrical engineer for television and radio stations, and in fiber optics as a low-voltage engineer. He worked in Colorado, Texas and Alaska.
He enjoyed spending time with family, archery, golfing, hunting, fishing, guiding and reading. He was a member of Delta Elks Lodge #1235 and Colorado Bow Hunters Association.
He is survived by his partner, Robin Watson; his daughters, Brittany (Jason) Vannest-White, Sarah (Justin) Fletcher and Emily (Dustin) Wilson; three grandchildren; his mother, Charlene Kitzman-Marker and stepfather, Jim Marker of Loveland; his stepmother, Pat Vannest of Delta; his grandmother, Dorothy Vannest; a sister, Dena Vannest; a stepsister, DeAnn Myers; a stepbrother, Dustin Myers; and extended family.
Mr. Vannest was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Vannest; two brothers; his grandparents, Elmer and Martha Kitzman; and his grandfather, Eldon Vannest.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the local nonprofit benefiting local families battling cancer, the AC Foundation, 1784 S. Apple Drive, Delta, CO 81416.
