Crawford resident Mason Mills died Dec. 25, 2016, at Crossroads Memory Care in Delta. He was 70.
He was born in Golden May 9, 1946, to Glen and Lorraine (Hartman) Mills.
On Oct. 21, 1989, he married Sylvia Ann Birdwell in Glenwood Springs. They celebrated 27 years of marriage.
Mr. Mills was a truck driver for Boise Cascade for many years. After moving to the North Fork Valley he worked construction. In 1991 he was hired by Oxbow Trucking where he worked with his two brothers. In 1997 he was transferred to Oxbow Mining where he was promoted to surface foreman and oversaw the train loadout facility. He retired in January 2013.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, riding horses, working on his old tractors and being outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; one brother, Tim (Gale) Mills of Bellevue, Wash.; four daughters, Kameal (Brian) Clark and Nikki Mills of Crawford, Christy (Kim) Hegarty of Platteville and Robyn Dasher of Duluth, Ga.; three sons, David (Lori) Mills of Oak Creek, Wis., Kevin Kirkpatrick of Aurora and Clete (Diane) Kirkpatrick of Sandy, Utah; special friends, Jim and Gladys Carpenter of Hotchkiss; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by twin sons; one sister; and his brothers, Doug and Byron Mills.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home in Hotchkiss. Interment will follow at the Crawford Cemetery.
