Longtime Crawford resident Mavis Jean Scherrer died Oct. 26, 2017. She was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Crawford United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Mavis Jean Hauf was born Dec. 15, 1929, to Earl and Dorothy (Fritz) Hauf in St. Francis, Kan. She was later adopted by Claire and Gladys Mae Whipple. She spent her childhood in eastern Colorado, graduated from Kirk High School in 1948 and later earned her teaching certificate.
On May 12, 1949, she married Albert Scherrer in Stratton. The family moved to Crawford in 1960 and lived there until his death in August 2007.
Mrs. Scherrer taught school for one year before she became a mail carrier for the USPS. She was a member of the Black Canyon Cattlewomen, and she enjoyed growing flowers, craft projects, sewing, reading, crocheting, arrowhead hunting and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Phyllis Williams of Longmont, Don (Kellie) Scherrer of Boulder, Marilyn Holvoet of Alaska and Pauline Cunningham of Crawford; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Albert; granddaughter, Kim Cunningham; and sisters and brothers.
