Longtime Delta County resident Maxine Burch died March 15, 2017. She was 95.
Maxine Vianna Briggs was born March 14, 1922, to Harry and Josephine Briggs in Maher. She lived in Crawford, Paonia and Delta her entire life.
On June 3, 1940, she married Charlie Burch.
Mrs. Burch worked beside her husband in their feed and flour mill in Crawford until the late 1950s. She then worked in the Crawford Post Office and as a Crawford mail carrier. Her final employment before retiring was with the motor vehicle licensing bureau in Delta.
Mrs. Burch was a skilled seamstress making clothes and quilts. She was a member of the Emblem Club auxiliary of Hotchkiss Elks Lodge for over 60 years, serving as member and officer.
She is survived by her children, Barney Burch of Ordway, Cheryl Minerich of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Clair Burch of Arvada; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie; and her daughter, Josephine Hendrickson of Delta.
Graveside services were held March 21 at the Crawford cemetery.
At their March 5 meeting Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes made two appointments to the county planning commission. Steve Shea was reappointed for a three-year term.
