Delta resident Melvin Lee Arterburn died Oct. 8, 2017, in a tragic fishing accident on the Gunnison River. He was 75.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the Garnet Mesa Baptist Church in Delta. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Grand Junction.
He was born Oct. 29, 1941, in Louisville, Ky. He spent his childhood and attended school in Louisville.
Mr. Arterburn joined the U.S. Army and served as a paratrooper during the Vietnam War. After receiving an honorable discharge, he worked as a truck driver.
He enjoyed training horses, traveling, spending time with his best friend, Baby, sports and being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his longtime partner, Clara Carr of Delta; son, Michael Arterburn of Green Bay, Wis.; daughter, Jonny White of Arkansas; three stepchildren, Elby Roush of Delta, Ed Roush of Commerce City and Karen Bannister of Thornton; and eight grandchildren.

On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
