Crossroads Senior Living has opened a new memory care unit thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of residents with dementia. Crossroads at Delta Memory is located on the same property as the assisted living center and independent cottages operated by Crossroads just off 3rd Street in Delta.
The entire building is designed in soft, soothing colors to promote a calm and peaceful frame of mind. Resident rooms are private or semi-private and are placed close to the center core so residents have easy access to the aides and the staff can observe their needs. Staff ratios are 1:5, with an LPN or RN on each shift.
The flooring is varied to mimic a pathway, for residents who wander. There are no long, dreary hallways. Instead, the facility is marked by special activity areas such as aquariums, an aviary, a music/sunroom and resident kitchen. The kitchen is for supervised resident use; appliances can be turned on and off with a switch controlled by staff. There's a beauty shop, library, a craft area and pleasant outdoor courtyard with plenty of seating. A physician exam room can also be used for family conferences.
Most rooms have showers, but the facility also has bathing rooms with spacious spa tubs.
Meals, housekeeping, laundry and linen service, entertainment and an array of activities are all provided.
Crossroads at Delta is one of three locations in Colorado operated by Maranatha Volunteers International.
After touring the new memory care unit, an associate from Maranatha's Northglenn facility commented, "There's nothing like this in Denver. They've thought of everything."
Kira Pierce is the director of Crossroads at Delta Memory. She previously worked as the admissions coordinator at Horizons Health Care and has also worked in hospitals. She has lived in Delta County for 12 years.
All rooms are private pay. For information on admission criteria or to request a tour, call Kylynn Wilson, marketing/admission director, at 874-1421.
