Olathe resident Merle E. Brew died Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at his home in Olathe. He was 89.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 18 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta with Paul Nystrom officiating. Interment followed at Mesa View Cemetery.
Mr. Brew was born in Olathe Sept. 23, 1925, to Cecil and Irene (Paxton) Brew. He graduated from Olathe High School.
On Feb. 8, 1948, he married Eleanor Kettle in Austin. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in February.
Mr. Brew was a life member of Delta Elks Lodge #1235. He enjoyed farming, flying planes, prospecting, old steam locomotives, four-wheeling in his Jeep, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by a son, Wayne Brew; a daughter, Merlene Brew; a grandson, Quinn Archibeque, all of Delta; great-grandchildren, Morgan Archibeque of Cedaredge and Steven Archibeque of Colorado Springs; and two brothers, Kenneth and Robert Brew, both of Pea Green.
Mr. Brew was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor; a sister, JoAnn Anders; and a grandson, Douglas Archibeque.

On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
