Mike Lane wins commissioner primary election

With only one contested local primary race in Delta County, between Mike Lane and Teresa Nelson for Delta County Commissioner, District 1, the interest in this year's election stems from this being the first year independent voters could participate in the primary.

On the Republican ticket Mike Lane defeated Teresa Nelson. Lane received 2,917 votes, or 63.04%, to Nelson's 1,710 votes.
Lane will face Democrat Dick Gilmore in November. Gilmore received 1,931 votes and was unopposed on the Democratic ticket.

In other county offices:

Incumbent Teri Stephenson (R) will face Stacy Lowe (D) for Delta County Clerk and Recorder. Stephenson garnered 4,272 Republican votes; Lowe received 1,950 Democratic votes.

Incumbent Lisa Tafoya (R) received 4,168 Republican votes and will be unopposed in November for Delta County Treasurer.

Incumbent Debbie Griffith (R) received 4,166 Republican votes and will be unopposed in November for Delta County Assessor.

Mark Taylor (R) received 4,329 Republican votes, and will be unopposed in November for Delta County Sheriff.

Incumbent Jesse Messenger (R) received 4,173 Republican votes, and will be unopposed in November for Delta County Surveyor.

Incumbent Lance Boren (R) received 4,160 Republican votes, and will be unopposed in November for Delta County Coroner.

Three Delta County residents are seeking state office on the Republican ticket. Mike Mason is running for State Representative, Dist. 61; Matt Soper is running for State Representative, Dist. 54; and Olen Lund is running for State Senate, Dist. 5. Each were unopposed in the Republican primary.

Mason (R) received 2,579 Delta County votes for State Representative, District 61, and a total of 4,951 across the district. He will face Democrat Julie McCluskie, who received 1,425 Delta County votes, and a total of 8,093 across the district.

Soper (R) received 1,324 Delta County votes for State Representative, Dist. 54, and a total of 9,153 across the district. He will face Democrat Erin Shipp, who received 495 Delta County votes and 3,819 across the district.

Lund (R) received 4,113 Delta County votes for State Senate, Dist. 5 and 9,571 across the district. He faces incumbent Kerry Donovan, who received 1,986 Delta County votes and 13,072 votes across the district in the Democratic primary.
