Cedaredge's Bruins made the Class 1A state playoffs last season and lost to Resurrection Christian in the first round to finish the year at 6-4.

Head coach Brandon Milholland believes there is solid commitment from his staff and players to improve play in 2015. "We will be competitive and play as a real team this year."

Milholland, in his sixth season at Cedaredge, will be assisted by fifth-year coach CJ Cannell, second-year coach Cutter Garrison and newcomer Jason Robidoux.

Including freshmen, the Bruins list 46 athletes on their roster for 2015. There are 12 seniors, 10 juniors, nine sophomores and 11 freshmen currently battling for spots on the roster.

Milholland sees his senior quarterback Jake Ostrom and junior running back and linebacker Isaac Swoffer as two key players for the Bruins. Others will emerge as the season progresses.

Included in the teams to beat in 2015 are last year's state champions Paonia, Hotchkiss, which has a strong program, and a Meeker team that has plenty of talent.

Cedaredge kicks off its 2015 season with Basalt's Longhorns coming to town on Sept. 4 for a 7 p.m. start time.

This week's schedule for the Bruins' football team includes scrimmages on Aug. 29 against Plateau Valley at 10 a.m. and Roaring Fork at 1 p.m.
