This year's election has been dominated by the divisiveness of the presidential race. It is important that we don't lose sight of the functionality that we do see on the state and local level. Our state representative, Millie Hamner, is up for her final term at the Colorado Legislature this year. Since 2011, she has been an admirable voice for our community. Her dedication to continuing to fight for equitable and adequate funding to our public schools is something she often speaks about when she visits Delta County, which seems to be every other weekend despite having four other counties in her district.
For six years, she has been proactive in ensuring that we conserve our beautiful environment by passing bills like her Legacy Mines Cleanup bill, which freed up state funds for responses to emergencies at any of the various abandoned mine sites throughout this area of the state. She has also been supportive of our local economy by passing legislation like the Cottage Foods Expansion, which makes it easier for local producers to sell their produce. When we look at Congress in Washington, we see division and partisan gridlock. Representative Hamner has been anything but divisive and partisan. Look no further than the Colorado General Assembly website and you will find that Millie had a Republican co-sponsor on every single bill that she sponsored last session. These are the qualities I look for when I decide who will represent my interests at the state capitol. I will be voting for Millie Hamner and I hope you will too.
