Missionary returns to western Colorado | Cedaredge, Church

Dennis and Chary Scroggins

Returning after 17 years as a International Mission Board missionary, Dennis Scroggins, who was born in Grand Junction, will take up residency in Cedaredge as the new pastor of Grand Mesa Southern Baptist Church.

Dennis Scroggins' father, Eddie Scroggins, was a highly respected pastor from Grand Junction. His mother still resides in Grand Junction.

Returning with Dennis are Chary, his wife, and his youngest daughter, Taniall, who is a high school senior this coming year. Grand Mesa SBC welcomes Dennis, Chary and Taniall on Sunday, Aug. 14, to begin a new and quieter life in the small community of Cedaredge.

Both Chary and Dennis came to faith in Christ in their teenage years. They met at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla.

While in college Dennis and Chary affirmed a sense of calling to the pastoral ministry with an emphasis on new work and ministry overseas. Within a few weeks after their marriage, Dennis and Chary moved to Washington state to work with a new church that had just been formed. While working with this new church, Dennis attended the Northwest Center of Golden Gate Seminary in Portland, Ore. After three years, the family moved to San Francisco so that Dennis could attend seminary full time. Dennis graduated in 1988.

They returned to Washington where Dennis resumed his ministry as a pastor, then began a series of missions that took them to Tasmania and Indonesia. They returned to the U.S. last year and took up temporary residence in South Dakota as an interim pastor while looking for a new place for his ministry. The Scroggins family had a wide variety of experiences in Jakarta, which has over 10 million inhabitants, and worked to help and coordinate disaster relief projects after the 2004 earthquake and tsunami in the Indian Ocean.

Church members are excited to welcome Dennis and his family to Cedaredge.
