Modern Appliance has helped make Delta great

By Orval Proctor

Dear Editor:

Congratulations to Modern Appliance for 68 great years.

In July 1949 John Sukle and his wife opened an appliance sales and repair shop out of their home at 144 Main. A few years later they built the building at 152 Main that we all know as Modern Appliance. I was 8 years old then. It was 1959, but I remember very well when Mr. Sukle pulled up in our front yard with a console TV. He installed a new TV antenna on the roof of our house.

We all gathered around our new TV to watch our very first TV show, "Gunsmoke." To make it more special, Mom cooked up a big bowl of popcorn and apples.

I still have that TV -- it is very special to me.

In 1970 when I got married, we went down to see Mr. Sukle. He sold us our first TV for $65 and he even let us make payments on it.

In our ever-changing world of today, we have become a throwaway society. People think the only place to buy appliances is the big box stores. Sure, they are happy to sell new appliances, but when something happens to them, they offer no service to fix them, so you need to just buy a new one.

For the last 68 years, Modern Appliance has offered nothing but top-of-the-line appliances for sale and if there is a problem, they are very dependable and honest. They provide the service to make sure everything is working as it should.

Whenever I have appliance or repair needs, Modern Appliance is always my first choice because I know that Jim and his staff are always there to help me with anything I need. You can tell they really take pride in their customer service.

Congratulations on 68 great years, and thank you to Modern Appliance for the role it has played in making Delta the great town it is.
