Celebrate the Beat (CTB) invigorated North Fork Montessori @ Crawford School's (NFM@C) first weeks of school. The mission of CTB, a non-profit organization, is to embody academic study through dance and music, and to promote leadership and excellence. This year's focus was art history titled "Leaping Off the Page." Students learned about Da Vinci, Picasso, Chagall and Matisse. They danced different art forms, from Impressionism to Cubism.
Colleen Macomber taught approximately 120 students two dances each in only five days, the shortest rehearsal session of her nine- year career teaching Celebrate the Beat. Because she has been dancing with Crawford Montessori students for eight years, Colleen knew she had a strong enough foundation to shorten the program. David Alderdice played drums, giving students rhythm, timing, and pizzaz.
Faith Ayer, a 6th grader of NFM@C, says the highlight of CTB for her was, "The amazing music, getting to do the dances, and having a wonderful coach, Miss Colleen."
North Fork Montessori @ Crawford School is a public pre-k through 6th grade school located in Crawford. NFM@C's mission is to nurture each student's natural desire to learn. Buses are available from Hotchkiss, Paonia, and Crawford communities for students of all ages.
