Movie rehashes claims, stirs up frenzy

By Thomas Wills

Dear Editor:

This is in response to the April 27 DCI letter promoting the new climate science denier film put out by the fossil fuel industry-funded denier group CFACT and its notorious director, Marc Morano. According to reviews by those who have seen the film, it is a rehash of standard denier claims and features the usual cast of non-climate scientist-deniers and hucksters. The purpose of the film is to apparently create a media frenzy and stir up ill-informed climate science doubters like the letter writer in the wake to the historic COP 21 meeting where most of the nations of the world agreed to greenhouse gas reduction targets. Of course the fossil fuel lobby would like to delay serious regulations and a much needed carbon fee for as long as possible, the health of the planet and human race be damned. There, is after, all over a trillion dollars in proven fossil fuel reserves still to be burned. The fact that it is also a U.S. presidential election year where climate change and the actions needed to curtail it have been a major issue in the campaigns is probably part of the timing as well.

I would urge anyone who feels less than informed on climate science to begin by reading the headline statements document of the Fifth IPCC Assessment of the science that was signed off on by 194 nations of the world. Then if you want to read more about the peer reviewed science and facts as we currently know them, read the accompanying Summary for Policy Makers, and finally, if still not satisfied, the million word full Working Group One report on the science. Then there are the two other reports from Working Groups Two and Three on mitigation and adaption.

Or I guess you can reject facts, critical thinking and basic physics and chemistry and go see "Climate Hustle," the modern-day equivalent of the science in "Chariots of the Gods" or chem-trail conspiracy theories. But if you do, your grandchildren (as well as your old high school science teacher) will be ashamed of you.

If you want to help make a difference as we face this very real issue please consider supporting the work of the non-partisan Citizens Climate Lobby. For info on Morano and pseudo science film: www.climatehustler.org.
