Nellie Clare Mellott died at her home in Paonia Thursday, March 10, 2016. She was 90.
A service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Mellott was born in Silver Creek, Minn., Sept. 20, 1925, to John and Clara (Rossberg) Stirewalt. She spent her childhood and attended school in California. While there, she worked as a shopkeeper and in the food packing industry.
She married Kenton Mellott May 1, 1955, in Loomis, Calif. After retiring 46 years ago, they moved to Paonia.
Mrs. Mellott worked several jobs throughout her life, including caring for the elderly and investing in and managing real estate.
She enjoyed being a mother and grandmother, gardening, painting, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her sons, Greg Mellott and Brian (Jackie) Mellott; her daughter, Marilyn Fife; a sister, Jane Woodson; three grandchildren, James (Jessica) Mellott, Jessica Mellott and her son Caden, and Tina Shipman and her three children.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Kenton, on July 11, 2014; two brothers; a sister; and a great-granddaughter.

Leaf Glimpse, 27, of Delta was reportedly caught in the act of a break-in at a home on 2050 Road, Delta, at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 3.
The break-in was discovered by a contractor who was hired to make repairs while the property owners were out of town.
