Since returning to Delta nearly 10 years ago, Morgan Yost DDS has steadily been growing the dental practice started by his father, Lyle.
Morgan, the youngest of Lyle and Judy's five children, returned to Delta in 2008 with the goal of updating his father's practice without losing the personal connections he believes are essential to a pleasant, comfortable visit to the dentist.
Initially his only employee was his sister, Tami Astin, who had served as their father's receptionist for five years.
Now Yost Family Dentistry boasts nine employees, a well-appointed office in downtown Delta, and a second dentist -- Dr. Bob Johnson.
"We are excited to bring Dr. Bob on to allow us to provide more opportunities for patients to receive dental care," Dr. Yost said. "He brings a friendly personality with excellent clinical skills. By bringing on another dentist, we will be open every weekday to make sure needs are taken care of."
Dr. Johnson was born in Utah and lived in Washington and Oregon before his family moved to Montrose. After graduating from Montrose High School, he earned his undergraduate degree from Mesa State College and attended dental school at the University of Colorado. He was trained in more advanced dental treatments during a one-year VA residency in Denver.
Dr. Bob's wife Jami is also from Montrose, so they began looking for opportunities that would allow them to raise their two children, Isla, 3, and Hazel, 5 months, close to family members on the Western Slope. Through word of mouth, Dr. Bob learned about an opening at Yost Family Dentistry. After visiting with Dr. Yost, he knew he had found exactly the type of position he wanted, with an established practice that's patient oriented. He's excited to have Dr. Yost as a mentor, and is committed to delivering the same type of personalized care for which Dr. Yost is known.
"I'm ecstatic to be in the right place with someone who is passionte about dentistry, who loves his practice and loves his patients," Dr. Johnson said.
Dr. Johnson's interest in dentistry began when he was a teenager. He wanted a career where he could work with his hands, where he could build personal relationships and help people on a daily basis. He shadowed his childhood dentist, Dr. Kolman Kroack, and now works part-time with him at Community Dental in Montrose. He also worked as a surgical dental assistant while in college.
The practice in Delta has all the up-to-date equipment a young dentist could ever want, Dr. Johnson added, as well as a "rock star" support team.
In his spare time, Dr. Johnson enjoys cycling, hunting, fishing and spending time with his growing family.
Yost Family Dentistry is located at 263 Main Street and can be reached by calling 874-8227.
