Bishop Karen Oliveto of the Rocky Mountain Methodist Conference appointed Rev. Don Schlichting and wife Kay to the Paonia United Methodist Church effective July 1. Rev. Schlichting preached his first sermon at Paonia on July 2.
He will continue living at his Grand Junction residence, but spend three week days and Sunday at his second residence -- the Paonia parsonage.
Rev. Schlichting's education includes a B.A. in political science, history, religion and philosophy from Southwestern College and a Minister of Divinity from Denver Iliff School of Theology and St. Paul School of Theology.
In his early ministry (1968-1973), he served in several churches in Kansas. Other church appointments were in Wyoming, Utah and Colorado (1973-2008). His most recent appointment was at Riverton, Wyo., from 2006-2008.
Hunting and fishing are hobbies that he will enjoy in the Paonia area. He is very interested in woodworking and has an inventory of many special woods for his projects.
Rev. Schlichting and Kay have two children -- Sandy and John and six grandchildren.
