Josephine Penko Morrell Young died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Horizons Care Center in Eckert. She was 90.


She was born in Somerset April 25, 1924, to Anton and Mary (Bolé) Penko. She attended school in Somerset and Paonia and graduated from Paonia High School in 1943.
On July 9, 1943, she married Jack Morrell. They had three children.
She married Lewis Young May 14, 1976, in Queen Creek, Ariz. They lived in Arizona, Cedaredge and Glenns Ferry, Idaho.
Mrs. Young moved to Delta in 2011. She lived at Heaven’s View Apartments until she had a stroke.
She was a former member of the Pitkin Mesa Club. She enjoyed visiting with people, cooking, baking chocolate cakes, embroidery and quilting.
She is survived by her sons, David (Susan) Morrell of Austin and Johnny (Charlotte) Morrell of Paonia; her daughter, Jackie Jo (Marvin) Stiner of Aloha, Ore.; three sisters, Mary Majnik of Grand Junction, Jenny Sunich of Paonia and Polly McKeel of Sherwood, Ore.; three brothers, Tony (Lucille) Penko of Grand Junction, Frank (Glenna) Penko of Dixon, Calif., and John Penko of Denver; six grandchildren, Shaun and Jason Ewing, Ryan Sherrick, Andrea Morrell, Melody Nelson and Darrell Morrell; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis, in 2011; six sisters; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 26, at Bethlehem Cemetery in Paonia with Pastor Michael Moran officiating.
