Lifetime Hotchkiss resident Harold Lee Martin died Friday, June 27, 2014, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 89.
A funeral service was held July 1 at the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss.
Mr. Martin was born in Hotchkiss June 7, 1925, to Thomas and Dora (Barr) Martin. He spent his childhood in Hotchkiss and graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1943. He attended Colorado A&M College.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged on May 28, 1946.
On Oct. 30, 1949, he married Jacqueline “Karen” Gellatly in Marshall, Mo.
Mr. Martin was a retired meat cutter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, coaching the Old Timers Association youth baseball team and attending Hotchkiss basketball games until his health declined two years ago. He was a member of BPOE #1807, Lions Club, VFW, Hotchkiss Jaycees and the Memorial Hall board for 25 years, serving several of those years as president.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 64 years, Karen Martin of Hotchkiss; one son, Thomas Martin of Grand Junction; one daughter, Susan (Martin) Schlott of Lamar; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Hall in Hotchkiss.
