David Mock, 31, of Paonia is lucky he wasn’t injured, but he can’t say that about his SUV.

The 2007 Dodge Nitro he was driving was heavily damaged.
Mock told the investigating officer from the Hotchkiss Marshal’s office that he had fallen asleep while driving home from working all night. The accident in downtown Hotchkiss happened on the morning of Wednesday, July 2. Marshal Dan Miller estimates that Mock was driving 35 miles per hour at the time of the crash. The speed limit at Third and Bridge is 25 miles per hour.
Mock’s vehicle hit the curb and demolished a half-barrel flower pot at the former Conoco station and convenience store.
Mock was cited for careless driving. No alcohol or drugs are suspected.
