After a winter of hiking the canyons of the Gunnison River, the Colorado National Monument and Utah, the Senior Hiking Group is now hitting the higher slopes of our southwest Colorado mountains.
Recently, the group hiked the Portland Trail outside of Ouray, surrounded by mountain peaks, waterfalls and wildflowers.
In this late spring season, when it is still muddy on Grand Mesa and getting too hot in the canyons, the hikers tramp the drier trails of the southern mountains and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.
In a few weeks, they will return to our Grand Mesa “backyard” enjoying the beauty of our spruce and fir forests and the many sparkling lakes that comprise the “Largest Flat-Topped Mountain in the World.”
