The 14th annual Wells Fargo Classic Golf Tournament went well for Tempe, Ariz., residents Kim Eaton and Pat Kuntz. The duo claimed its second straight tournament title in last weekend’s flighted tournament held at Devil’s Thumb Golf Course in Delta.
Eaton and Kuntz won the tournament’s top gross competition with a two-day total of 139 in Championship Flight play.
Whitewater’s Maya Freismuth and Cedaredge’s Patti Michael were the top net competitors with a tournament total of 125 in Championship Flight action.
Second gross winners from the Championship Flight were Katy and Peggy Brink with their 160. Second-place in net play went to Barbara Murphy and Nancy Sturgill with a score of 127.
Ericka Estes and Jo Garrison carded a two-day total of 169 to place third in gross play. Third-place net honors, with a 132, went to the duo of Karen Foster and Stephanie Jaquez.
The fourth place in gross play was claimed by Mo Howard and Robin Reed with a score of 170. The fourth-place net winners were Dot Lindsey and Berta Thimmig with a score of 134.
Second Flight gross winners included Patsy Ochs and Tami Smith (1st-160); Connie Jack and Kathy Anderson (2nd-166); Connie Badini and Sheila Naski (3rd-167) and Pam Buerger and Barb Vick (4th-176).
Net winners from the Second Flight include Joanie Brown and Kathi Miller (1st-125); Janice Kollath and Keri Kock (2nd-127); Christy Martin and Terri Allender (3rd-129) and Debbie and Robin Ely (4th-135).
Cindy Lonis and Vicki Ripp had the best gross score in Third Flight play with a 172. Second place went to Barbara Daveline and Dolli Garrison with their 185. The third-place award belonged to Bunny Ambrose and Mary Bunch with a score of 190. Brenda Burke and Barbara Marley were fourth with their score of 193.
On the net side of Third Flight action, Candy Hammerich and Gigi Hertzke placed first with a 122. Second net, with a score of 125, belonged to Linda Phillips and Barbara Thurman. Madge Daberkow and Melinda Keeney shot a two-day total of 137 to place third and Betsy Hill and Donna Morgan fired a 141 to place fourth.
Jinx Richards and Nancy Cole shot a 185 to take top gross honors in the Fourth Flight. Second went to Michelle Marquardt and Peg Toft who shot a 193, while Mary Gleason and Kelle Wilson shot a 195 to earn third place. Betty Jo Gillum and Carolyn Stephens were fourth with their 224.
Net winners from the Fourth Flight included Jeannie Pippin and Norma Lea Miller (123), Bev Burke and Nancy Stevens (131) and the teams of Gayle Butler and Helen Jurca and Archie Wethington and Becky Brown tying for third place with scores of 134.
Local host and Wells Fargo representative Vicki Ripp thanked all parties responsible for making the 14th annual Classic a success. Ripp noted this year’s turnout was the largest since she has taken over in a hosting roll.
Seven of the 82 golfers in the 14th annual Classic were from out of state. Four were from Farmington, N.M., two from Tempe, Ariz., and one from Mesquite, Nev.
