Prep sports teams are preparing for their opening contests, mostly coming in the next two weeks, with several teams seeing action this week.
Scrimmages have been played, with final touches being made to offenses and defenses in football, volleyball and softball.


Cedaredge High School participated in the Wildcat Invitational at Adobe Creek Golf Course this past week where the team finished sixth with a score of 243. Steamboat Springs won the team title with its score of 233.
Mason Garcia of Cedaredge tied with golfers from Moffat County and Durango to place 10th with a score of 79. Logan Wood shot an 81 to tie for 14th with Moffat County and Steamboat Springs’ golfers. The Bruins will host their own meet on Aug. 26 beginning at 1 p.m. and then play at Devil’s Thumb in Delta on Aug. 27 beginning at 9 a.m.
The remainder of Cedaredge’s scores were Jacob Robb 83, Ryan Geddes 98, and Christian Hall 100.
The schedule for this week’s prep activities includes a football scrimmage between the Cedaredge Bruins and Roaring Fork’s Rams (in Carbondale).
Delta High School’s opening-week schedule includes Friday night football (Aug. 22) at home against Classical Academy at 7 p.m. Prior to that contest, the Lady Panthers’ softball team will host Montrose in varsity action at 3 p.m., with the junior varsity set to go at 5 p.m. The softball team is in Rifle on Aug. 26 with varsity action beginning at 4 p.m.
Delta’s soccer team is scheduled to host Montrose on Aug. 26 at 3 p.m.
Cedaredge’s softball team is scheduled to host Cortez on Aug. 23 with varsity action set for 11 a.m. and junior varsity at 1 p.m. The Lady Bruins host Palisade at 4 p.m. on Aug. 26 at Field of Dreams.
Hotchkiss’ weekly schedule includes the Bulldog’s football team hosting Ignacio at 7 p.m. The tennis team was at Grand Junction JV at 4 p.m. and is at Fruita JV on Thursday at 4 p.m. On Saturday, the tennis team is at Vail Mountain at 11 a.m. and then will host Montrose on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 4 p.m.
Paonia began its sports season with tennis at Grand Junction JV on Aug. 19 and plays Fruita JV on Aug. 21 and finishes the week at Vail Mountain. The Eagles host Montrose on Aug. 26.
